DPYC Summer Sailing Programs

Sea Stars | Ages 6-8

It's never to early to get out on the water! Our Sea Star program takes our newest sailors and gets them sailing on the first day with a partner. Students will learn on the water safety, boat handling, and much more from certified instructors through interactive games and activities both on the water and on land. This 5 day camp is a great way to instill a passion and love for the water in your child through safe and fun learning.

Intro to Single-Handed Sailing | Ages 8-12

This beginner/intermediate sailing class aims to take the new or novice sailor and provide them with the skills and knowledge to operate a small sailboat alone. At weeks end, students will have the ability to tack & jibe, sail upwind & downwind, tie a variety of knots, identify the parts of the boat, and will have gone on numerous adventures (pirates? what?!). Whether your child is only sailing for the first time or coming back for another season, this class has a lot to offer sailors of all kinds.

Intro to Double-Handed Sailing | Ages 12-18

This beginner/intermediate sailing class aims to take the new or novice sailor and provide them with the skills and knowledge to operate a small double handed sailboat. At weeks end, students will have the ability to tack, Jibe, and sail on all points of sail as both a skipper and a crew. Sailors will be able to tie a variety of knots, identify the parts of the boat, and will have gone on numerous adventures (pirates? what?!). Whether your child is only sailing for the first time or coming back for another season, this class has a lot to offer sailors of all kinds that are interested in getting into a larger boat.

Intermediate Dinghy Sailing | Ages 12-18

This intermediate level sailing class takes the knowledgeable sailor and brings them to the next level through an introduction to performance sailing and the world of racing. Students will review the basics of sailing and will practice more complex concepts like roll tacking, the importance of weight placement, the basics of performance sail control and shape, and the basics of regatta structure. Pirate Day and the sailing Olympics are still a part of this camp, so bring your gear!

Advanced Dinghy Sailing | Ages 12-18

Suit up and strap in! This camp is designed for the experienced sailor that wants to jump head first into the world of competitive racing. Students will spend two weeks sailing, practicing, and racing in C420s, lasers and 29ers, learning about offensive and defensive maneuvering, tactics, advanced boat handling, using the spinnaker and trapeze, and racing to win. Sailors will be encouraged to participate in weekly local DP regattas.
