Every year our members participate in NOSA's annual Newport to Ensenada Regatta. Their participation takes many forms in addition to what we first think of regarding the race ... racers. Yes, it is true that DPYC is always well represented in that category. In fact we have a long-standing record of the most number of entrants and most number of trophies in the regatta. The chant of DPYC... DPYC... DPYC during the trophy presentation is familiar to many!

However, over the years we have developed some additional traditions that make our club's participation in this event further rewarding to both racers and non-racers. The friendships that are made between club members, other clubs and our hosts in Ensenada, Casa del Sol and Juanito's Boats. In addition, the reward of helping those in need in Ensenada has become one of our most important traditions of this event.

For many years our members' generous financial, clothing and toy contributions lent much needed assistance to the Don Bosco orphanage. In 2003 through our friends in Ensenada we added further giving to Casa Hogar del Anciano de Ensenada, a senior's rest home and DIF Municipal, a local benefactor to children and homeless families. Although unfortunate, the Don Bosco orphanage no longer exists. However, DPYC still continues our old & new traditions. This year we will continue to direct our charitable efforts into organizations in Ensenada where the need is great and matches our efforts in the past.

Three organizations were identified in 2004 which we will further support this year through your financial and in-kind donations. As a reminder, the three organizations are Casa Hogar del Anciano de Ensenada, a senior's home; DIF Municipal, a social service agency that helps children and homeless families in Ensenada and a local medical clinic that provides assistance to newborn children and their mothers from the Hospital General de Ensenada. These newborn infants have neither blankets nor sufficient diapers and are sent home with virtually nothing. Our goal is to provide them with blankets, diapers and other items to help these mothers care for their newborn infants. Through DPYC's assistance to these organizations our club's reputation of generosity and friendship is spreading ever wider and is indeed of enormous benefit to us with our friends in Ensenada.

In 2007, we had another phenomenal year, raising over $3,500 for these three organizations from financial contributions received from members, the Valentine’s Day Wine Auction, Team DPYC Ensenada Shirt sales and the raffles. Our goal this year is $10,000!

Additionally, we had over 20 bags of donated clothing and other items. New blankets donated by Mark & Barbara Lambert were also given to the clinic. All three groups received portions of the clothing contributions.

Please help continue our important and rewarding traditions. There are many opportunities to participate in this very important DPYC tradition.
